There comes a time in most of our lives where we find the need/desire to downsize.  Whether you’re moving into a smaller home, apartment, retirement home or long-term care home, we offer downsizing services to make the process smooth and stress free.As Kingston’s downsizing specialists we can help you through each step of the process. We offer full service downsizing packages that fit your needs and your budget.

Typically the order of things goes something like this:

  • Declutter – we ensure that absolutely everything that is not 100% necessary of that will not fit in your new home is separated from the rest.  We understand this can be a difficult process and we are VERY skilled at measuring when to push and when not to.  The bottom line though is you can’t take it all with you.
  • Organize – ensuring “like” things are paired with “like” things and that we know and understand the full inventory of what we have to work with.
  • Sell / Donate – I cringe at the prospect of throwing anything in the garbage.  There is very little that cannot be donated, repurposed and/or loved by someone else.  Whether we sell your items, donate them or a bit of both, we will collaborate with you to create a plan you are comfortable with.
  • Dispose / Recycle – speaks for itself.  The items that cannot be used by anyone will be recycled and disposed of.
  • Pack / Unpack

Downsizing Solutions That Work For You

Downsizing in its basic form is when you buy or rent a smaller home than the one you currently have and make it your primary residence. Because you are moving from a larger space to a smaller one, all of your contents will not fit in your new residence. You’ll need to get rid of “stuff” to avoid over-cluttering your new place.

Downsizing isn’t just for home moves, however. It can also be applied to many different projects. You may need to downsize your current office, home, home office, kitchen, basement or any other space for that matter to create an orderly, serene environment.

Downsizing can be anywhere from exciting to deeply traumatic with a whole host of reasons behind it; empty nest, loneliness, divorce, accessibility or the loss of a loved one. For some familiarity, resistance to change, circumstances surrounding the downsizing are things which can make the transition extremely challenging emotionally. We are experts at listening, understanding, presenting the positives and offering solutions. Our experience gives our Kingston downsizing professionals a deep understanding of all involved.

We start by meeting with you for a free 20 minute consultation. During this consultation we also take photographs to use for assessment of the project.

When hired, we begin by sourcing materials necessary to start the job. This allows us to be prepared to hit the ground running on day 1.

You will choose a primary decision maker who will be involved throughout the entire process. No decision is made without your blessing.

You and OrganizeU Now then decide a timeline and design a schedule that works for everyone involved.

Then, we GET TO WORK !

Examples of Downsizing Projects

Bookshelves, linen closets, clothes closets, attics, porches, cabins, are some examples and obviously the entire home, cottage, etc. room by room. Outside could include the removal of excess lawn ornaments, odds and sods, broken decorations, furniture no longer used, machines to be put up for sale.

Home Office
Cleaning out filing cabinets, desk drawers, shelving units, cupboards, data maintenance and organization on your computer, photo organization – digital and otherwise, consultation on documents to keep, etc.

Kitchen cupboards & drawers, pantries, organizing and downsizing cookery, dinnerware, plastics, organizing baking closets, purging extra “stuff” not needed.

Often this is where everything goes one does not want to “deal” with. Removing clutter and stuff not needed or useful to make the space much more user friendly and appealing; whether it is used for recreation, laundry, a spare bedroom, exercising or perhaps converting into a nanny suite.

From old paint cans to dirty tires, pieces of lumber, garbage, tools everywhere, a workshop perhaps, storage bins up on shelves, hockey equipment, gardening tools and so much more. All of this can be sorted through, minimized and organized so your garage is a pleasant place to enter.

An organization plan moving forward will guarantee to set you up so instead of wasting time and energy looking for contracts, tools, inventory, files, correspondence, calendars, etc you can devote your time to what really matters; your success.
